Our Story & Legacy
A vertically integrated real estate firm, MACO develops, builds, and manages affordable housing—serving communities across multiple states with integrity, scale, and deep expertise.
MACO’s roots began with construction. In 1963, Lew Maddox founded what would become MACO Construction, building affordable housing in collaboration with public funding programs. As projects multiplied, it became clear that a dedicated management arm was needed—hence MACO Management, established in 1977 to care for the properties after construction. Later, MACO Development emerged to oversee the planning, financing, and execution of new projects.
